Owners Casey & Jay Thornton purchased the business from Casey’s parents in 2009 after operating the Watkinsville location since it’s opening in 2006. The family business was established in 1972 by Casey’s father, John and grandfather, Art in Augusta, Georgia. Later Casey’s mother, Toby and father expanded and opened a larger location in Augusta as well as opening a second store in Lake Oconee, Georgia. As the years moved on they attracted more and more customers from the Watkinsville and Athens area. This is when Casey & Jay moved to Watkinsville to open a new store there. Casey’s parents sold the Watkinsville location to the couple in 2009 and it was reopened as Southern Spa & Patio.
